  • Dr. Mark Handel

    Veterinarian

From the moment Dr. Handel read James Herriot’s novel All Creatures Great and Small, he knew veterinary medicine was his path in life. 30 years later, he still loves going to work every day to care for Vista’s pets!

  • Dr. Linda Knox

    Veterinarian

Since elementary school, Dr. Knox has always wanted to be a veterinarian, and that commitment has never wavered.  When it came to apply for college, she had already settled on UC Davis, the only veterinary school in California at that time.

  • Dr. Jennifer Nissen

    Veterinarian

Although she majored in biology during college and thoroughly enjoyed her studies, Jennifer could not imagine sitting behind a lab bench for the rest of her career. She thought back to her love of animals, and realized veterinary medicine was the perfect way to combine her scientific interests with her passion for helping others!

  • Dr. Aleksandra Canseco

    Veterinarian

Dr. Canseco spent most of her childhood rescuing injured birds, helping stray dogs find their owners and volunteering at animal shelters and veterinary clinics. Her mother is a physician and her father a dentist. She grew up exposed to the world of medicine, but the only medicine she was ever interested in pertains to animals.

In 2013 Dr. Canseco graduated from the University of Sydney Australia with a degree in veterinary medicine. During veterinary school, Dr. Canseco worked as a veterinary nurse at a small animal and exotics clinic in Australia. She also volunteered for a wildlife and rescue group, where she rehabilitated and released numerous birds, reptiles and marsupials.

Since graduation, Dr. Canseco completed an exotic and small animal general practice and emergency medicine internship in Oceanside California and has since worked in general practice. Dr. Canseco has a special interest in exotic animal medicine and treats not only dogs and cats but also, birds, reptiles, rabbits, rodents and others. She also teaches emergency exotic animal medicine to veterinary interns.

Dr. Canseco was born in Warsaw, Poland. At the age of 6, she went on a family road trip to beautiful northern Italy. A few weeks into the vacation her mom informed her that she was to start primary school. This is the point at which, she realized that she was not actually on a vacation but rather, her family had escaped Poland’s communist regime.

In 1987 the Australian government accepted Dr. Canseco’s family as political refugees and they moved to Sydney Australia where she grew up.

Dr. Canseco also has a degree in Interior Architecture with first-class honors from the University of New South Wales, Australia. She practiced Interior Architecture for over 10 years, both in San Diego and Sydney.

Dr. Canseco has lived in San Diego for over 10 years now and during her time off work, she loves spending time with her family including her husband, son, cat, dog and birds. She also enjoys painting, sculpture, felting, photography and any arts and crafts she can get her hands on.
